THE ART OF BLACK FRIDAY SHOPPING
Black Friday—the buzz, the bargains and the temptation to add everything to your basket that looks like an amazing deal. While it’s undeniably exciting, the art of Black Friday shopping lies in focussing on the products and prices that bring joy and value, without falling into the trap of going wild, So, let’s dive into how you can shop with confidence and intention, making sure you only come away with the items that matter most.
Make a list
Before Black Friday begins, take a few moments to list out what you actually need or genuinely want. From new baby essentials to that luxurious throw you’ve been eyeing up (or for me it’s a new hoover - rock’n roll eh) Knowing what you want ahead of time is key and it can help to plan in categories (baby, home, personal etc) and prioritise to help you shop with purpose, not just impulse.
Sign Up for Newsletters
One of the best-kept secrets for Black Friday shopping is without a doubt brand newsletters. Many companies, like us, offer early access, exclusive extra discounts, or even added extras to those of you who trust us with your email address. Sign up early so you’re ready when those offers hit your inbox!
The Basket Trick: Add and Pause
Here's a clever trick: add items to your basket the day before sale but don’t check out. When it then goes into sale the following day the items should still be there at a lower cost. If you’re shopping during the sale do the same trick but instead to see everything lined up, assess the cost, then review and refine your choices if needed. After a little breather, come back and see if everything still feels like a must-have. Sometimes, the initial thrill fades, and you're left with only what truly brings you joy or exceptional value.
Set a Budget and Stick to It
Yes it’s the boring one I know, but setting a budget is like putting on your favourite cosy jumper—it makes you feel secure, comfortable, and a little more prepared to face the shopping frenzy. Decide how much you want to spend overall, and keep track as you shop. Future you will thank you for keeping the finances on track!
Watch for Brand-Exclusive Deals
Most often the best Black Friday discounts are found on the brand’s official site (ahem, Etta Loves, of course). If there’s a brand you love, make sure to check out their own sale page—you might find exclusive discounts or bundles that bigger sites don’t offer. Most small businesses offer exceptional customer service and nice little extras like gift wrap or gift notes if you’re buying pressies. Support small is always my cry (if you can that is).
Don’t Be Tempted by Discounts Alone
A good deal is only a good deal if you were planning to buy it anyway. I’ll put my hand up and admit that I’ve bought things in the past because they were such a good deal and supposedly ‘selling fast’ only to realise I neither really needed nor wanted it. The best test is to ask yourself ‘Would I buy this if it wasn’t on sale? and if the answer is no, it's best to leave it behind. And if you keep thinking about it keep an eye on it to see if it gets further discounts as the sale continues, in which case it might make it a simple choice.
Finally, grab a cuppa, grab that list and shop from home
No long lines, no stress—just you, a warm drink, and some focused, intentional shopping. Browsing online lets you stick to your list and focus on the items that you know you want or need. Sure, the odd added extra might sneak into your basket but hey, it’s Christmas!
I hope these tips have helped focus your mind a little, and I’d be daft not to remind you to sign up to our Etta Loves Newsletter here for exclusive early access to our Black Friday promotion, and make your list for our magical baby essentials for your baby, or gifts for imminent new arrivals.
Happy, mindful shopping
